Center Focus

The Medal Winners

  1. You will need to have a current newspaper or information from the web listing the medals won in the Olympics along with the countries who won them.
  2. Have your students find out the fraction of medals won by each country based on the total number of medals awarded.
  3. You can have them do this center for two weeks or continuously in order to compare the change in percentages throughout the Olympic games.
  4. When the games are completed, follow up on this center activity by working with the whole class to find the final makeup of the Olympic medal winners by country.
