Story Problems

1. Using chart paper, write several story problems for students learning beginning addition. For example:
   I brought 3 cookies to school today and Samantha had 2 in her lunchbox. How many did we have all together?
2. Have your students draw a picture to represent the story problem.
3. Underneath their drawing they should write out the number problem and answer it.
4. You can also have them create their own word problem for classmates. This will help you to see how well they grasp the basic concept of addition.
