Draw a Scientist

Objectives: Students will realize that anyone can be a scientist.

Materials: paper, pencil

Draw a Scientist

Procedure:

  1. Ask students to think to themselves about what a scientist might look like when they're working.
  2. Pass out paper and ask them to draw a scientist at work.
  3. Collect papers and hold a class discussion about the drawings.

Closure: Have students notice the number of men compared to women and other such comparisons. Talk about why there are such stereotypes for scientists.

Evaluation: See misconceptions of scientists that need to be addressed.
